Erke, McDaniel Each Rack Up 5 Aces in Chargers’ Sweep of IVCC

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team served a season-high 16 aces in earning an Arrowhead Conference sweep of Illinois Valley 25-3, 25-20, 25-10 on Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (13-9 overall, 3-1 Arrowhead) got five aces each from freshmen Lauren Erke (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) and Jasmin McDaniel (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) as they surpassed their previous season-best of 13 aces, set Sept. 18 against Oakton. The pair also led Sandburg in digs, with Erke picking up 11 and McDaniel 10.

Sandburg dominated the first set against the Eagles (2-12, 0-4), scoring the match’s first 15 points on Erke’s serve, including four aces. The Chargers closed the set with a 7-0 run on McDaniel’s serve, including aces on the final two points. IVCC trailed 21-20 in the second before Sandburg finished the set off with a 4-0 run.

Jadyn Swan (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) led Sandburg with seven kills. Setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) had 16 assists for the Chargers.
